PDF table to Excel

Not only for statements: Columnry can turn any table in a text-based PDF – a price list, a report, a schedule – into a clean spreadsheet.

Generic table mode

Choose “Any table” as the document type and Columnry keeps every row and column as found. Numbers are converted to real numbers, using the number format it detects.

Adjust the columns visually

The page view shows the column lines over the PDF. Drag a line to move it, double-click to remove it or click to add one. The grid below updates as you go.

Tables over many pages

The same column lines are used on every page, so long tables come out as one sheet.

How it works

  1. Download the statement from your online banking as a PDF.
  2. Open it in Columnry. The PDF is read on your device and is not uploaded.
  3. Check the columns and rows, fix anything that is off, and export to Excel, CSV, OFX or QIF.

What you get

Stays on your device

There is no server behind the converter, and the page's security policy blocks every network connection. You can turn off Wi-Fi after it opens.

Finds the columns

Date, description, money out, money in and balance are detected from the layout and the headers, across all pages of the statement.

Balance check

When the statement has a running balance or totals, Columnry checks every row against it and marks the rows that don't add up.

Review before export

Change what each column means, move the column lines on the page, untick rows that are not transactions, and correct any cell.

Dates and numbers from many countries

1,234.56 and 1.234,56, 31/12 and 12/31, month names in many languages, minus signs, brackets, CR/DR and Arabic-Indic digits.

Remembers your bank

Save the column setup once, and the next statement with the same layout is read the same way.

Good to know

  • Columnry reads PDFs that contain real text, which is what online banking usually produces. Scanned or photographed statements (images) are not supported: there is no OCR. The app tells you when a PDF has no text.
  • Statement layouts differ a lot. Always check the result, especially the balance check, before you rely on it.
  • Password-protected PDFs work if you know the password. Columnry cannot remove protection you don't have the password for.

Questions

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

No. Columnry needs PDFs that contain text. If you can select the text in your PDF viewer, it should work.

Are merged cells supported?

Cells that span several columns are put in the column where they start. Check the result in the review grid.

Is my statement uploaded?

No. Columnry runs in your browser. The converter page is not allowed to send data anywhere, and it keeps working offline.

What does it cost?

Previewing the whole statement is free, and you can export the first page (up to 20 rows). A 30-day pass costs $9 and a lifetime key costs $29, paid once.

Does it work with my bank?

It works with most text-based PDF statements, whatever the bank, because it reads the layout rather than using a fixed list of banks. Try your file with the free preview first.
